Garten

I've been walking around our neighborhood a lot. I walk on my own, with the kids riding their bicycles or even just to the daily bus stop. I smell the lavender after a freshly fallen rain while walking on chilly morning sidewalks. I smell pine from the forests surrounding our village on a sunny afternoon. I even smell something that might be sweet but I just don't want to know what all the sticky, fallen fruit is in my backyard. (Alas, it's a European plumb tree also known as "green gage".) It makes me so excited to be back in nature. I love having a yard again with all the possibilities I can squeeze out.
It might be hard. It may be easy. I also might get very lazy. I'll take my chances and see what kind of love I can pour into my yard and home. I look to my German neighbors who all seem to have green thumbs and amazing, effortless outdoor spaces. Giant gardens, sprouting vegetable patches, hanging planters galore, even a few Gartenzwerg or in English, garden gnomes. It's common to see people out at 1830 spiffing up their landscape. Or sitting on their balcony just enjoying their yard---and a hefeweizen!
